Wasatch Fire District crews fought a two-acre fire in Wallsburg that sparked Saturday, July 12.

Fire crews cleared hot spots from a small grass fire near Wallsburg, one of two that ignited in the Wasatch Back over the weekend.

Wasatch Fire District crews responded around 6 p.m. Saturday, July 12, to the two-acre fire east of Deer Creek Reservoir.

Wasatch Fire Chief Eric Hales said firefighters initially worked to protect two homes that were threatened by the flames. The fire also spread to a stand of cottonwood trees.

Crews from the U.S. Forest Service and Utah Forestry, Fire and State Lands assisted at the scene.

Hales said as of Monday morning, the fire was 100% contained. He said personnel from the county and the forest service were still working to remove the trees and suppress any remains of the fire.

Hales said crews will monitor the site over the next few days.

No structures were damaged except a tree fort. The fire was caused by a mechanical issue with a four-wheeler.

No one was hurt in the fire.

In Summit County Sunday, July 13, the Utah Department of Transportation reported a brush fire sparked shortly after 10:30 a.m. on I-80 near Echo Reservoir.

One eastbound lane was briefly closed due to the burn, located at mile marker 171 just north of the junction with I-84.

North Summit Fire District Battalion Chief Tyler Rowser told KPCW the fire, which was less than an acre, was put out within an hour.

The cause is still under investigation.
